This unique opportunity allows researchers to split their Ph.D. research between Ghent University (‘North’) and a partner university in a developing nation (‘South’).

Ghent University, through its “Special Research Fund” (BOF), generously funds the 24-month study period in Ghent. The remaining 24 months of research in the partner university must be fully financed.
Requirements:
- Candidates must be nationals of designated developing nations.
- Collaborative proposals from the candidate, a Ghent University supervisor, and a partner university supervisor are required.
- While there are no specific subject constraints, priority is given to themes crucial for development.
- Open to degree students pursuing a (joint) Ph.D. at Ghent University.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Only degree students are eligible; this opportunity is not available for exchange students.
- Candidates can undertake limited exploratory research.
- A minimum of 36 months of doctoral research is required to complete the Ph.D. when the fellowship begins (1/10/2024).
- Encouraging gender diversity: Ghent University supervisors can support a maximum of two candidates per call, ensuring they are of different genders.
Funding Details:
- Ph.D. fellowship at Ghent University for 24 months.
- Ghent University promoters receive a monthly bench fee of €310 for research in Ghent.
- Additionally, a travel budget of €8,000 covers operational costs, student expenses, and both Ghent University and local promoter travel costs.
